How We Play Offensively

Each coach will implement an offensive system to teach players how to play with structure and perform unselfishly within the framework of a team.  We preach team basketball, good shot-selection, passing, ball movement and player movement to avoid an iso-centric style of play.

How We Play Defensively

Defensively each coach will implement a pressure man to man defense.  Within our man to man defense players will learn how to play on-ball defense, gap-defense, help-side defense, and how to rotate and rebound.

ABC Young Lions Policies

 Registration & Team Placement

• Registration is completed through our official online form and is not final until payment (or an approved payment plan) is received.
• Team and roster placement (including AAU circuit teams such as 3SSB) is at the sole discretion of ABC Young Lions coaching staff, based on tryout performance, age/grade eligibility, roster needs, and program fit.
• All athletes must have a current, valid AAU membership (where applicable) and any required medical/physical clearance on file before participating in practices or games.
• ABC Young Lions reserves the right to move an athlete between teams during the season when it serves the athlete’s development.

 Payment & Fees

• Program fees cover coaching, gym/facility time, league and tournament entry, and administrative costs, and are due according to the schedule provided at registration.
• Payment plans may be available upon request; families should contact the program office before the season begins to arrange one.
• Accounts more than 30 days past due may result in an athlete being held out of games or practices until the balance is resolved.
• Fees do not include travel, lodging, individual meals, or personal equipment unless explicitly stated.

 Refund & Cancellation Policy

• Once an athlete accepts a roster spot, a spot is held for them and another athlete is not offered that spot. For this reason, program fees are non-refundable, including in cases of injury, schedule conflicts, or a change of mind.

 Athlete Code of Conduct

Every ABC Young Lions athlete agrees to:
• Bring a positive, coachable attitude to every practice, workout, and game.
• Attend all scheduled practices and games; notify a coach at least 24 hours in advance of any known absence.
• Treat teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials with respect at all times — no taunting, profanity, or physical or verbal abuse.
• Represent ABC Young Lions with integrity on and off the court, including on social media.
• Understand that playing time is earned through effort, attitude, and commitment, and is at the coaching staff’s discretion.
• Abide by all program rules regarding dress code, curfew (on travel trips), and use of club facilities and equipment.
Violations may result in reduced playing time, suspension, or removal from the program, at the coaching staff’s discretion, with no refund of fees paid.

Parent & Spectator Code of Conduct

Parents and spectators agree to:
• Support all athletes — not just their own child — with positive, encouraging conduct at practices and games.
• Never confront, criticize, or instruct coaches, officials, or players during a game; game-related concerns should be directed to the coach or program director within 24–48 hours through the proper channel (see Grievance Procedure below).
• Refrain from any physical or verbal abuse, harassment, or intimidation directed at players, coaches, officials, or other spectators.
• Understand that coaching decisions — including playing time, position, and roster moves — are the responsibility of the coaching staff.
• Model the program’s faith-based values of respect, sportsmanship, and integrity at all times.
Failure to follow this code may result in a parent/guardian being asked to leave a venue, or in the athlete’s removal from the program.

Attendance & Commitment Policy

• AAU and travel-team basketball is a significant commitment. Athletes are expected to attend all practices, workouts, and games unless excused in advance.  We do except athletes who play other sports and we understand it maybe some overlap in scheduling.
• Repeated unexcused absences may affect playing time and roster standing.
• Athletes who cannot commit to the full season schedule (including tournaments and travel dates) should discuss this with coaching staff before accepting a roster spot.

 Playing Time Philosophy

• ABC Young Lions is a competitive development program. Playing time is not guaranteed and is determined by the coaching staff based on effort, attitude, practice performance, and team needs.
• Our goal is to develop every athlete’s skills, character, and basketball IQ; younger/developmental teams will generally emphasize broader playing-time distribution, while competitive travel teams will still prioritize development but team success does play a factor.

 Injury, Medical & Concussion Policy

• A current medical release/physical form is required for every athlete before participation.
• Any athlete suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury will be immediately removed from play and may not return without written clearance from a licensed medical professional, in accordance with Wisconsin youth concussion law.
• Parents/guardians are responsible for disclosing any relevant medical conditions, allergies, or medications to coaching staff prior to participation.
• ABC Young Lions coaching staff will take reasonable steps to respond to injuries but does not provide medical treatment; emergency medical services will be contacted for any serious injury.

Weather & Cancellation Policy

• Practice, game, or event cancellations due to weather or facility issues will be communicated as early as possible via [text/email/team app — insert your communication tool].
• ABC Young Lions will follow venue and league guidance on lightning, extreme heat, and other safety-related delays or cancellations.
• Makeup sessions, where scheduled, will be communicated through the same channels.

Travel Policy

• For teams participating in AAU circuits or out-of-town tournaments, families are responsible for their own travel and lodging unless otherwise stated.
• Athletes traveling with the team are expected to follow all curfew, hotel, and conduct rules set by coaching staff for the duration of the trip.
• A signed travel consent and emergency contact form is required before any athlete travels with the team.

Photo, Video & Media Release

• ABC Young Lions may photograph or record athletes during practices, games, and events for use in team media, our website, social media (@abcyounglions), and promotional or sponsorship materials.
• By registering, parents/guardians consent to this use unless they notify the program office in writing that they opt out.
• ABC Young Lions does not sell or share athlete images or personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.

Privacy Policy

• Information collected during registration (contact information, medical information, payment information) is used solely for program administration, safety, and communication purposes.
• Personal and medical information is kept confidential and shared only with coaching staff and officials on a need-to-know basis.
• ABC Young Lions does not sell or rent family or athlete information to third parties.
• Payment information is processed through secure third-party payment processors and is not stored directly by ABC Young Lions.

Non-Discrimination & Equal Opportunity

ABC Young Lions, a program of Community Hope Enterprise, , welcomes athletes and families of all backgrounds. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or religion in the administration of our programs. While our mission is rooted in Christian faith and mentorship, participation in basketball programming is open to all athletes who embrace our values of respect, effort, and integrity.

Abuse Prevention & Safe Sport

• All ABC Young Lions coaches and non-athlete staff undergo background screening prior to working with athletes.
• ABC Young Lions maintains a zero-tolerance policy for abuse, harassment, or misconduct of any kind toward athletes.
• Any concerns regarding athlete safety should be reported immediately to the program director; all reports will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.

Grievance & Complaint Procedure

• Concerns about coaching, playing time, or team decisions should first be raised with the athlete’s coach through a scheduled conversation — not immediately before, during, or after a game.
• If unresolved, concerns may be submitted in writing to the program director for review.
• ABC Young Lions is committed to addressing all concerns fairly, respectfully, and in a timely manner.

Financial Assistance

• ABC Young Lions believes cost should not be a barrier to basketball development, mentorship, and life-readiness programming.
• Families facing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the program office to discuss fundraising or payment-plan options on a confidential, case-by-case basis.
